About The Photographer

All of the pictures on this website were taken by me (Thomas Martin), an amateur photographer from Cardiff south Wales. I started taking an interest in photography in 2010 and bought my first 35mm SLR in August of that year.

As a photographer I do not believe in the overuse of digital editing and prefer to limit it to the bare minimum. Most of the pictures on this site have only been cropped and or had the white balance adjusted.

I spend a large proportion of his time in cities, living and working in Cardiff and I think this is reflected in the pictures I have taken. The pictures are also influenced by my interest in architecture and engineering.

About The Equipment

Camera Bodies

My main camera is a Minolta X-300 body but some of the older photographs were taken with an older Minolta XG1. Both bodies were purchased second hand and are quite old, and as such neither body is 100% working. The X-300s two fastest shutter speeds 1/1000 and 1/500 do not always fire completely and the XG1 does not wind on properly. Despite these defects both are good cameras and take good pictures.

Lenses

The camera bodies are supplemented with the lenses, also all bought second hand and all fairly old. The lenses, all manual focus, are an f1.4 50mm prime and f2.8 28-70mm and 80-200mm zoom lenses. In addition to the lenses I use a set of adjustable macro extension tubes which have been used with all three lenses.

Film and Development

Generally I use ISO 200 colour film but I have experimented a bit with some faster film and would like to try some black and white film and slower film. I get all of my films developed and caned to digital format at express imaging on City road in Cardiff.

Peripheries

I have both a tripod and monopod, although I tend not to use them unless I am trying to take specific pictures or for macro photography.
